SWIM TO ALLIGATOR LIGHTHOUSE!!
I am always reminded of God’s love when people reach out and interact with me. We are so loved when we feel a relationship, and kinship towards each other. Our community expands when we interact and share our experiences with each other. I have heard that your network is your net worth, and some things are more valuable than money. To be able to share with you is a privilege and honor for me.
For this year I have chosen a monumental task to complete the world open water association swim to Alligator Lighthouse. The lighthouse is 4.5 miles east of Islamorada, and to go there and back is 9 miles. Can you imagine the beauty of swimming with nature for nine miles? So far more than 200 people have registered for the swim which takes place September 9, 2022. My plan is to practice between now and then and build up my stamina. In order to compete you must have an escort on a kayak and I recently met my kayaker, an oceanographer named Claudia. In the past Jorge has been my kayaker for races across Oleta park to the Haulover cut. Without Jorge and Claudia, I could not realize my goal. What a blessing to have friends!!
In order to reach this milestone, I must necessarily come out of my comfort zone. This life has taught us many lessons, and to be sure our abilities have been stretched when we reach for the stars. In order to come out of our comfort zone, we must be self-directed to achieve something, and plan to complete it. This requires our heart, mind and soul. You got to feel it baby! I love swimming and it has been my passion for more than 20 years. The meditation I realize when I swim approaches Nirvana. To reach this new goal I must change my environment and swim in the ocean more. Most often we swim in the pool, but 9 miles is quite an increase from my usual 2000 yards per session. Fortunately, I have friends who swim weekly at North Shore beach, or Dog beach on the Rickenbacker. These environmental experiences create new positive atmospheres for our mind. In order to face our fears, we must take our challenges in steps. How do you practice for 9 miles? Every long journey starts with a single mile! So, each month I must do more, and more to stare down the fears I could create in my mind. All my fears are liars, your too!
So, follow me my friend as I take this journey, and prepare to swim to Alligator Lighthouse. I will keep all my friends updated on my youtube channel, and the competition is a fundraising event so support the charity of competition! Donate to Friends of the Pool…
